I have found out that my birth mother lived here in the 1960īs,
All I can say is that I found the site interesting to visit, it is wonderful to
see where one's roots, however fleeting come from.
Hopefully I will visit next year what seems to be a wonderful town.

We have at the moment guests from Kilwinning -- Allan and Anne Craig, 25 Corsehill. We are showing them our part of our beautiful country of Canada. We visited Alberta for a family reunion -- Allan and Anne saw some museums and exhibits and plenty of wide open spaces. We have certainly enjoyed having them visit and hope one day to visit Kilwinning as their guests.

Thank you.

I am enjoying Kilwinning from a distance as I am trying to round up ancestors from areas in and near Kilwinning. The Kerr family came from Dalry and Kilbirnie, and on my grandmother's side the Reid family came from Forfar in Angus. My hope, although slim, would be to visit the area to see it for myself. With the number of Kerrs and Reids in Scotland, it's a wonder the name of the country wasn't changed, at least that is the way that it seems from way over here. donaldk33@hotmail.com Donald Kerr

I have just begun researching my biological father's family. I was sent this web site by another Winning trying to find the root or origin of the Winning surname. I have enjoyed the photos and history. I will visit this site often to further my knowlege of the Winning surname. Anyone researching the same please contact me. All that I know so far is my father's name was Arthur (Archabald) Winning born in 5/12/1910, to Henry Winning (b. 2/9/1879 possibly, who was married on 31/7/1909 to Elizabeth (Beth) Reddoch (b. 12/8/1883). I have some the Reddoch side of the Family of James and Agnes Reddoch dating back to the mid 1600's. Thank you for allowing me to view this site. Carol K

If anyone is searching the McGinnes family of Daniel and Margaret and children: Hugh, Margaret, Thomas, James, William and a boarder James McGinnes please contact me. Hi I've been through your site a few times now, and it brings back great memories, I attended Corsehill Primary School and then Kilwinning High School. I lived at Eglinton Park Farm, which I now see has been made into a park, I was wondering what happened to the farm and the old army base that used to be there, also the canning factory and the cottages. I would love to hear from anyone who went to school with me, I left Kilwinning High School in June of 69 and moved to Canada with my family. some of the names I remember are Jean McKinnon, Shona Gillespie, and Christine White. Keep up the great work on this site it is wonderful.

Born in Kilwinning at a Nursing Home on the road to Irvine. Spent early years in the primary school on the Dalry Road (I think).I have 2nd cousins who farm in Fergushill area - Millers. Christina and Robert Miller live somewhere on the Glasgow Road. My parents "flitted" to Kirkaldy, later to the Shetland Islands then back to mainland to Perth. We all emigrated to Canada in 1952. By this time my Father was a Presbyterian Clergyman. He has been dead for the past 26 years. My Mother died 4 years ago at the ripe old age of 93. I am married to a Canadian and we have one son who is attending the University of Manitoba. I enjoyed the virtual tour. The place has drastically changed since I last visited in 1956. Very nice site. The way it is presented anyone with grain of sense would like to visit. I know I'd like to come home again. Best wishes to all Kilwinningites, in Kilwinning and scattered across the globe. Slainte! Just surfed in searching for ancesters. Great site. My great great grandparents were married in Kilwinning. Margaret Dunlop and Daniel McGuinnes 25 November 1842. Had James Mcginnis 29 June 1845; John McGinnis 1 February 1846 both in Kilwinning. Daniel was a coal miner. Had Margaret McGinnes 28 February 1859 Thomas Dunlop McInnes 13 May 1861 both born in Dreghorn. Thomas immigrated in 1878 do not know port of departure or port of entry. Do I have any kin left in Scotland? I sure could use some help finding the parentage and siblings of Daniel and Margaret. All information greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for putting Kilwinning on the web. My great great great grandfather William Mickle was born and married in Kilwinning in the early 1700's! His son (William Mickle II) came to Detroit, Michigan (before it was Detroit) with the British to fight in the early wars in that area. His family then settled in Southern Ontario (Upper Canada). I have found out that the church he was married in had since burned down! Someday I pray that I will be able to visit Kilwinning and step on the sacred ground of my "heritage" and see where my family came from. William Mickle was one of Canada's founding famililes! It is on record here that he was in the area in 1792. Thought you'd all like to know! Sincerely, Barbara. P.S. Could anyone tell me how long it would take to drive from Paris France (through the tunnel) to Kilwinning?

GREETINGS from cold Canada... one of the coldest this winter. But sunshine promises better weather soon! :-}

Searched your site both at local library, and now again on my older model, for cemeteries/ family history/ birth records.

Am looking for FREE info! In April this year, I plan, DV, to BE in Kilwinning, and environs, since those are my roots as far as I can discern. Would like to do some preliminary work before I arrive. Any suggestions?

Hello - I love the site and as I am tracing my family tree it has been great to learn about Eglinton Castle and Kilwinning. I do need assistance though if anyone over there can help. I am wanting to travel to Scotland and see Kilwinning to trace ancestors footsteps in October November this year but friends have told me that the town and castles all close ready for winter around that time. Is this true? I would hate to travel all that way to have Eglinton Castle be closed. Could you tell me which months from June on would be preferable to visit? I would appreciate any help. I hope this was appropriate to ask on this site. But I do love the site which will help me when I arrive there. Thanks

I have my holidays here every year, Well almost....

Great pubs. Locals are the best people you will meet. Not much to do in the town though. That is why we are all in the pubs!!!

I was interested in visiting your site because I was born in Kilwinning on May 8, 1937. It brought back warm memories of my early childhood. I was raised in Renfrew during my early childhood years; however, my family would pass through your village many times on the way to Irvine. I came to Canada at the young age of 7 1/2. I hope that someday I will have the opportunity to return to my place of birth.

I used to live here and I think that it's the best place in the world. The attractions for tourism are well placed and I enjoyed visiting them all including Skating,Swimming and play areas at the Magnum Leisure Centre, fun and lots of unknown information at the Big Idea in Irvine, and excellent shops and eating places. The Blair Tavern not far away was my favourite diner and I realy enjoyed the food there.Kilwinning is a great place and I will never forget it!

I loved the sight, it's always good to check what's happening at home. I left Kilwinning properly in 1988, moving to London, where I've now settled. My parents Bill and Jean, my brother Andrew and sister Hazel, all moved to Bath in 1990 and 1991.

I was at Abbey Primary from 1971 to 1978, and Kilwinning Academy after that.

If anyone who remembers me wants to get in touch, then feel free to do so.

Warmest regards

Alister Campbell

Hello to all my friends in Kilwinning / Stevenston / Saltcoats / Ardrossan. My mother lived at 24 Main St. Kilwinning. This was known as the Masons Howff. They used to meet above the stables at the rear of the building. This is where the Mercat cross stands outside. The stable has been converted to a kitchen now. This was used before the No. 0 lodge was built. Greetings to all brothers from the Alfred Milner Lodge No 2833 EC in the South African Western Division.

What a great site just discovered it today. My ancestors came from Fergushill and Peatshill, from your site I have learned Fergushill must be not far from Kilwinning as it is in this county, I had hoped there may have been a photo or map pointing these places out but still I have gained a great insight into the area. My ancestors were Marion CAMPBELL from Peatshill and William Barr from Fergushill, unfortunately I have been unable to find this my ggrandfathers death here in Australia but it was I do know he was a "Pug" fighter and this is why they went to Glasgow to marry as I understand this was unacceptable to the family. Does anyone know the history of pug fighting, my only experience is from a movie I saw a few years ago. Anyway great sight, perhaps one day before too long I will get to visit. Cherio, from the Olympic state.

Hello Loved the virtual Tour of Kilwinning brought back some memories I was last there on a fleeting visit in 1995 much to my regret as I wanted to find out more of my Birthplace so the tour was a great help. I left Scotland 1960. I was born in Kilwinning at the Maternity home who's name escapes me.But I understand that it is now a pensioners home. I'd be really interested in hearing from anyone who has knowledge of the Ferguson Families of Stevenson/Salcoats / Ardrossan My Grandfather was George Ferguson and Grandmother was only ever called Granny Ferguson! Have a cousin called Betty Ferguson don't recall her married name somewhere in Kilwinning. Grandfather George had I think about 7 children some of his offspring's names were Kate,Married name Sharp. Peggy ( margaret)Nettie Married name Thom husbands name Jim( jeanette) James ( Jim) Elizabeth ( Betty). Anyway any info would be most welcome

Thanks "tae ye a'" John
